Elder Outreach Project
The Elder Outreach Project is led by our AmeriCorps members and includes bringing Maplehill School students to the Twin Valley Senior Center to socialize with the seniors and provide volunteer support to the Senior Center, monthly food donations to senior housing in Plainfield and other food donations to area elders. We recognize the value of students having the opportunity to be in the presence of elders in the community. As such, we continue to explore and develop ways that we can expand our relationships with these elders in our community. If you know of an elder in the Plainfield / Marshfield area who could use extra support, please contact us.
Since 2000, Maplehill School and Community Farm has created opportunities to share its food and other resources with those in the Plainfield area who are in need. The school and farm has made food contributions to local individuals, food banks, community suppers and special events.
Maplehill School and Community Farm has been an AmeriCorps Host Site through the Vermont Youth Development Corps since 2006. We host one to two AmeriCorps members each year who work at the Maplehill School and the Maplehill Community Farm.
Our members lead our Elder Outreach Project, teach elective classes, provide crucial hands-on support in the garden at the farm and support our healthy food program.
If you are interested in serving as an AmeriCorps member at Maplehill School and Community Farm, please contact the Washington County Youth Service Bureau.
